Severe weather conditions are approaching the southern United States, spanning from Texas to Mississippi, bringing with it destructive winds, potential tornadoes, and large hail as predicted.
A tornado watch remains in effect for multiple southeastern Texas counties, including the vicinity of Houston, until 9 p.m. Central Time. The intense storm system is shifting eastward from the Rockies on Saturday, causing extreme weather across the southern regions.
Storms began arriving in Dallas, Texas, late on Saturday morning, accompanied by strong winds and very heavy rainfall. These storms are expected to pass through Houston between 7 and 9 p.m. on Saturday, bringing damaging winds, the possibility of a tornado, and significant rain.
New Orleans, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi, will experience storms occurring between midnight and 2 a.m. Wind damage, isolated tornadoes, and heavy rain may happen.
Storms will also move through Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, early on Sunday morning from 5 to 8 a.m., bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
Atlanta will face severe storms and heavy rain late in the morning on Sunday, but the risk of severe weather and tornadoes will remain to the south, affecting Albany, Georgia, as well as Panama City, Tallahassee, and Gainesville in Florida.
This same storm system causing severe conditions will additionally lead to heavy rainfall stretching from Texas across to the Carolinas, with potential flash flooding.
The highest likelihood of flash flooding is anticipated from just east of Dallas, Texas, through Little Rock, Arkansas, and into Memphis, Tennessee.
