Obama reacts to Trump's video that contains racist content, stating that a majority of Americans perceive it as 'profoundly concerning.'

Former President Barack Obama expressed his thoughts a week after a video was shared on President Donald Trump’s social media account, which portrayed him and former first lady Michelle Obama as monkeys, criticizing the conduct seen on TV and social media as a "circus."

During an interview with podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen that was released on Saturday, Obama was questioned about the social media post, which was removed shortly after Trump shared it due to increasing pressure from both political parties. “First of all, it's crucial to acknowledge that the vast majority of Americans regard this conduct as very concerning,” Obama remarked.

He continued, “There is this spectacle occurring on social media and television... The reality is that there appears to be a complete lack of shame among individuals who once understood the importance of maintaining some level of decorum, propriety, and respect for the role, right? That sense of respect seems to have vanished.”

The one-minute video was uploaded on Trump's social media platform on February 5 at 11:44 p.m. It primarily centered around false allegations regarding the 2020 election, but towards the conclusion, it unexpectedly exhibited the faces of the Obamas superimposed on the bodies of monkeys with the song

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt initially dismissed the backlash against the video as "insincere outrage" and described the racist portrayal of the Obamas as stemming from an "internet meme" that portrayed Trump as a ruler in the jungle, while depicting Democrats as a variety of animals.

However, later on, a White House representative stated that a "staff member mistakenly made the post." A few hours afterward, Trump asserted he "didn't err" and claimed he had not viewed the complete video prior to authorizing it for "the people" to publish on his profile.

Trump informed journalists this week that the unnamed staff member who supposedly uploaded the video had not faced any repercussions for the post made on his account.
